Halesite, Long Island, NY
Halesite is a picturesque waterfront hamlet located on the North Shore of Long Island, New York. It sits within the Town of Huntington and acts as the nautical gateway to Huntington Harbor.
Because it is a small community often overshadowed by the larger "Huntington" name (and shares the 11743 zip code), it can be hard to distinguish where the village ends and Halesite begins. Generally, Halesite occupies the eastern side of Huntington Harbor, north of Mill Dam Road and along New York Avenue.
Here is a breakdown of what makes Halesite distinct:
⚓ The Vibe
Nautical & Historic. Halesite is defined by its relationship to the water. The air smells of salt water, and the landscape is dominated by marinas, yacht clubs, and views of boats bobbing in the harbor. It is quieter and more residential than the bustling Huntington Village nearby, but still very upscale.
📜 History
The hamlet is named after Nathan Hale, the Revolutionary War spy ("I only regret that I have but one life to lose for my country").
The Monument: There is a large commemorative rock and plaque dedicated to him near the intersection of New York Avenue and Mill Dam Road, marking the area where he was believed to have been captured by the British.
Historic District: The East Shore Road Historic District features a collection of preserved 19th-century homes that give the area a charming, old-world feel.
